Insurance Carrier Appointments (see box at right)
Getting appointed with an insurance carrier is the first step in processing a new business application. SBG will help facilitate the appointment process and will assist you along the way by:
- Providing you with insurance company appointment forms
- Answering questions about how to complete the forms or requirements
- Tracking and advising you of appointment status
- Confirming your writing agent contract codes and effective dates
- Processing agent of record changes for inforce policies (most carriers require you to be appointed before processing an AOR)
Note: Annuity appointment paperwork, contracting and product training, and state specific training must be completed before an application is written or signed. State specific suitability trainings are listed on each state’s DOI website. There are no exceptions.
State Insurance Licensing & LTC Continuing Education
Your Broker Dealer or firm will continue to be your source of assistance with state insurance department licensing, licensing renewals, securities registrations and continuing education requirements. Inforce Policy Service Administration
SBG will help you with the facilitation of general policy service requests, such as:
- Beneficiary change requests
- Address changes
- Surrender requests
- Ownership changes
- EFT changes/additions
- Premium payment questions
- Requests for annual statements
- General policy questions
Underwritten Policy Change Requests:
- SBG Agency Services will also assist you with the following policy change requests that require underwriting services:
- Non-contractual term conversions
- Face amount increases

Just-In-Time Appointment Policy
Most of our insurance company partners practice a “just-in-time” appointment policy in the majority of states, which means they will simply hold the appointment request for new business. As a result the original packet may become “stale-dated”, which will require new signed forms.
With few exceptions, contracting can be submitted concurrent with a new business application. Only those states that require a pre-appointment (PA, MT) will be submitted to the carrier without an imminent application.
Contact SBG Agency Services to confirm your active appointment and learn your writing rep code for a particular company. Note: if you were appointed with a company through a different servicing agency, you will need a new writing rep code aligned through SBG.
